Robbert was elected to the Rowlett City Council in May of 2014 and has lived in Rowlett for over 22 years.
Robbert’s obvious Australian accent pinpoints his origins. Born in Sydney, Robbert lived in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne before emigrating to the U.S. with his Texas bride in 1991, in order to be closer to her family.
For the past seventeen years, Robbert was the owner of Travel Leaders Garland and Rowlett, an agency that is a locally-owned franchise of Travel Leaders. Under Robbert, this previously unprofitable business grew to become a thriving travel agency with three offices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. During this time, Robbert has developed some niche opportunities and has been host to fifty Independent Contractor agents. At the beginning of the recent economic slowdown, Robbert took heed and consolidated the 3 offices into the Rowlett location.
As a local business owner, it was a logical step to join the Rowlett Chamber of commerce in 2008, become an Ambassador and then later be invited to serve on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce. Robbert is also a member of the Rowlett Lions Club and has been the Communications Director for the last two years.
Travel Leaders Rowlett was selected in 1999 by The Dallas Observer as the Best “Travel Agency in Dallas” and was also included in their annual list of the “Best of the Best.” Travel Leaders Rowlett has been honored twelve times in the Golden Circle Club with Travel Leaders as one of the top 20 producers for preferred partners. In June 2013, Robbert was selected by the travel industry magazine, Travel Agent Central, as one of the most Social Travel Advisors who is using Social Media in travel.
Robbert’s management style reflects his personable nature; he uniformly maintains a respectful tone and Customer Service focus when communicating with others. He trains his eye on the “big picture” and utilizes his entrepreneurial background to be a nonconformist, when necessary, seeking better ways to do things, often breaking from tradition when faced with the need to make quick decisions. These traits have allowed Robbert to lead a successful life, both personally and professionally.
Robbert lives in Rowlett, with his wife of 27 years, Brenda, their three dogs, and 24 Japanese Koi.
